What They Do

Marketing executives are responsible for the advertising, public relations and marketing strategies of a company or organization. The strategies they deploy must attain maximum profits while remaining engaging to the audience or client base. These individuals are also responsible for product development, event organization, sponsorship and research. Marketing executives conduct research in order to find trends in the potential demands for goods and services. They use the results of their research to suggest, plan and execute strategies through advertising campaigns that respond to these trends.

 

Marketing executives work in both the private and the public sectors. Also, depending on the size of the organization, they can specialize in selling a product or service, advertising for a company or raising public awareness. These individuals work closely with stakeholders, customers, suppliers, partner organizations and others to ensure that a company’s brand is recognizable and effective. They may be in charge of managing marketing teams that design and produce the marketing materials. This includes leaflets, newsletters, e-newsletters, posters, fliers, commercials and more. Marketing executives stay on top of trends in marketing, their competitors’ activities and the overall goals and mission of the company for which they work. They use this information to improve marketing strategies.

 

Career Growth

Many marketing executives started out in entry-level positions, such as a sales representative, marketing assistant or purchasing agent. After at least three years in this role, an individual could be promoted to a management position. In particular, those who have earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree are preferential. The job outlook for marketing executives is projected to grow at an average pace over the next few years. The field of marketing is essential to the growth of an organization because advertising, promotional campaigns and marketing are all necessary for success. Marketing executives with skills and knowledge in the field of information technology and who can successfully implement strategies using social media and the Internet are in demand as well.

Many of these certifications require exams or proof of professional experience.
