What Can You Do With an MBA? - Southeastern University

What Can You Do With an MBA?

With an MBA, professionals can increase their earning potential, expand their professional network and access better career opportunities. Students often have the ability to specialize in their MBA program, which can prepare them for leadership positions in their chosen field.

Where can the following four MBA concentrations lead after graduation?

Executive Leadership
The executive leadership concentration offers courses in leadership, business strategy and global social entrepreneurship. Students learn about human resources and leadership philosophy, among other topics. Students gain the confidence needed to solve complex problems and uncover growth opportunities.

Graduates are prepared for leadership roles in technology, government, accounting or finance, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals or health care, energy utilities — the list goes on. Those who concentrate on executive leadership have no shortage of options when it comes to career possibilities.

Missional Leadership
A less-traveled path for MBA graduates is a career in the nonprofit sector. Nonprofit opportunities for highly educated people are growing across the board since they require a high degree of responsibility and deliver more rapid career advancement than the private sector typically can promise. Another perk is that nonprofit positions typically lead to greater job satisfaction because it’s rewarding to bring about positive change in society.

Missional leadership courses include servant leadership, discipleship and effective biblical preaching and teaching. Graduates have opportunities to work for churches, seminaries and theological schools, and mission and rescue agencies.

Criminal Justice
The criminal justice concentration has a heavy emphasis on criminal justice policy, the criminal justice system and administration and management. Students are required to complete a capstone research project.

Since criminal justice is such a popular field of study, those who choose to go on to earn an MBA will stand out among the competition when it comes time to find a job. Possibilities include law enforcement, crime scene investigation, homeland security, CIA or FBI, K-9 work and corrections.

Sport Management
The sport management concentration is best for MBA students who see themselves pursuing a career in the sports industry. Courses focus on financial issues in sports, sports marketing and risk management. Graduates typically go on to work for sports teams (college or professional level) in capacities ranging from branding and marketing to apparel, scouting and public relations.

SEU’s four MBA concentrations afford students tremendous opportunities to pursue rewarding careers in areas they’re passionate about. In addition, many MBA grads go on to do consulting work in a variety of exciting fields. The option to be self-employed as a consultant is appealing to many people, and an MBA lends the credibility necessary to take that path.
