Master of Education in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

This degree program is designed specifically for classroom teachers, career changers, and those who want to teach abroad. The Master of Education in TESOL allows students to develop collegial relationships with other Christ-minded educators as they deepen their understanding of TESOL, Second Language Acquisition, and education. This program prepares educators for credentialing to teach abroad and/or certification in teaching English to speakers of other languages. The MEd TESOL program prepares Florida teachers to take the ESOL K–12 Subject Area Exam of the Florida Teacher Certification Examination.

Program Length: 18 to 24 months; full-time (9 credit hours per semester) or part-time (3-6 credit hours per semester)

Tuition: $375 per credit hour

Admissions Requirements

  • Submit an application to www.seu.edu/apply
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university (official transcripts required)
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 or completion of three successful years of teaching experience, or an official GRE score of at least 300 on the Verbal and Quantitative sections and a 4.0 or higher on the Analytical Writing section (scores must be within the last five years); if you took the GRE prior to August, 2011 the combined score must be at least 1,000 on the Verbal and Quantitative sections
  • For non-native English speakers, a current TOEFL score at the mean level or higher
  • An essay on the topic, “Why I want to pursue my master’s degree at Southeastern University”
  • Two references (professional and personal)
