Our digital media degree teaches you how to use fundamental concepts of communication and demonstrate appropriate levels of research and writing skills. Exhibit proficiency in industry-standard graphic design software and utilize digital design practices and principles. Courses and Requirements
The 120-credit digital media degree includes 56 credits of general education courses to help provide you with a well-rounded education. An additional 43 credits are dedicated to the program’s major core, with 16 credits of digital media courses, 24 credits for digital design and three credits of your choice of a digital media & design elective. Twenty-one credits of any general college-level courses are also required.
The general education component of undergraduate degrees provides you with a basic understanding of a broad range of subjects. This supports the liberal arts emphasis of the university’s academic mission.

Topics include the history and contemporary applications of digital media and design as well as practical, introductory examples of digital media and design. 3 DCOM 2023 Photography This is an introductory course to photography. Students learn how to properly compose, light, and focus on various subjects. Topics include digital photography techniques, photo-journalism, photography ethics, as well as portrait, landscape, and event photography. 3 DCOM 2423 WI: Writing for Digital Media This course focuses on writing skills for digital media with an emphasis on media convergence and online journalism. 3 DCOM 3333 WI: Writing for the Mass Media This course focuses on writing skills for the mass media, including print, broadcast, documentary, and online journalism as well as public relations and advertising. It includes instruction on interviewing, research, and copy editing for various media and story formats. 3 DCOM 3793 Digital Marketing & Analytics This course introduces students to the changing world of digital marketing. The purpose of the course is to prepare students to create digital marketing pieces and campaigns in order to reach customers and promote their organizations or businesses. It explores key marketing principles that are applicable to traditional and emerging technologies while providing students the chance to get practical experience using the major advertising, communication, and analytics tools available for both targeted and mass marketing efforts. 3 DCOM 4001 Communication Seminar This course readies the future communication professional for the job market by providing career advice on networking, interviewing, job searching, and the production of job application materials. 1

Students build a vocabulary for examining and recognizing color and learn how color theories are applied in various professional fields. 3 DCOM 3003 Magazine Design & Production This course deals with the process of magazine planning, editing, designing, and distributing. 3 DCOM 3073 Typography This course covers the history, contextual applications, and contemporary developments of typography. Students learn typographic theory and apply typographic principles in various media. The study of typographic applications in various industries including advertising, editorial, promotional, and digital media is also included. 3 DCOM 3523 Digital Layout & Design This course provides instruction in the practical skills and theoretical considerations used in the layout and design of various media productions. 3 DCOM 3823 Web Page Design This course is designed to prepare the student for the design of pages and sites on the World Wide Web. Included will be techniques for designing effective, aesthetically pleasing, and user-friendly interfaces by applying proper color coordination and easy to understand navigational techniques. 3 DCOM 4083 Advanced Digital Imaging This course focuses on advanced digital imaging techniques, including advanced digital photo editing, raster image digital design, and designing for online media. 3 DCOM 4113 Advanced Illustration This course focuses on advanced illustration techniques, including the production of vector graphics, infographics, and line illustration. 3
